Painting Beyond a Photo

In this 4 week class we will explore the process of developing a painting from photo reference. We will discuss what makes a "good" reference for a painting, and how to develop a "bad" reference into a successful painting. We will use representational painting as a launching point, and will cover diagonal grid and drawing transfer techniques in order to set up a successful composition using your own photo references. Over the course of the class we will explore color mixing and matching, edge control, tone, value and form, with each student receiving individual guidance and instruction.

This class will run every Thursday in August (6,13,20,27) from 10am-2pm
