Analysis of Form: Drapery

In this four-week class, students will gain a foundational understanding of form by using the five-value system to render drapery from life. We will begin with the basics, breaking down a complex subject into manageable steps. Students can choose to work in either charcoal or grisaille (monochromatic oil painting). Working in grayscale narrows the focus, allowing for a deeper study of value. Through careful observation and a structured, step-by-step process, we will explore composition, edges, local value, and value relationships. Students will learn to render realistic light and shadow, accurately capturing transparency, opacity, and light diffusion.  

Classes will be held every Thursday in September (3,10,17,24) from 10am-2pm
